Common Questions
What is a Marriage & Family Therapist?A Marriage and Family Therapist (MFT/LMFT) is essentially an expert in relationships. An MFT is uniquely trained to assess, diagnose and treat a wide range of issues so that clients can achieve more satisfying and productive relationships. I have a bachelor's degree in psychology and a master's in marriage, family and child counseling. I was licensed after working/earning over 3,000 supervised, clinical internship hours, and passing comprehensive written and oral examinations.
Since you are an MFT, do you only counsel married people?
I counsel clients who are single, married, living together, or not in any relationship.
What types of therapy do you provide? What age groups/genders do you see?
I provide individual, couples and family therapy. I counsel adults as well as teen and preteen girls.
What are your areas of specialty or focus?
I specialize in relationships, parenting, mood disorders, trauma, grief and loss. I also provide premarital counseling.
Do you have actual life experience in the issues you treat?
Yes. I helped parent 2 sons into adulthood, so I know first hand the challenges parenting and step-parenting bring. I’ve also had personal experience with trauma and loss. I try to use the most effective therapies and receive continued education and training with experts in the field.
How long does therapy take?
Depending on the issues you want to address, we can determine the number of sessions. We can work together to tailor the therapy to meet your needs.
How long are the therapy sessions?
Individuals: 45-50 minutes for the initial and follow-up appointments
Couples or Families: 70 minutes for the initial and 45-50 minutes for follow-up appointments
I can also schedule partial or extended sessions.
What do you charge? Do you take insurance?
You can reach me at (909) 260-2736 to discuss fees and the risks and benefits of using insurance.
