Common Questions
What is a Marriage & Family Therapist?A Marriage and Family Therapist (MFT/LMFT) is essentially an expert in relationships. An MFT is uniquely trained to assess, diagnose and treat a wide range of issues so that clients can achieve more satisfying and productive relationships.
I have a bachelor's degree in psychology and a master's in marriage, family and child counseling. I was licensed after earning over 3,000 supervised, clinical internship hours, and passing comprehensive written and oral examinations.
Since you are an MFT, do you only counsel married people?
No. I have tailored my practice to counsel women who are single, married, living together, LBGT, or who are not in any relationship. My interest lies in helping women overcome obstacles that affect their relationships at home, work, or in other aspects of their lives.
What types of therapy do you provide? What age groups/genders do you see?
I provide individual (talk/cognitive, educational, supportive, and insight-oriented) psychotherapy to adult women, ages 21 through 70. I am a GLBT-friendly therapist.
What are your areas of specialty or focus?
I help women make better relationship choices, let go of toxic and dysfunctional relationships, and heal from past trauma.
Do you have actual life experience in the issues you treat?
Yes. I'm happy to share my experience as it relates to your journey if I feel that doing so will help you heal.
How long does therapy take?
I don’t adhere to a “one size fits all” approach - your treatment plan will be tailored to your specific needs. Generally speaking, we’ll meet on a weekly basis for as long as is needed to achieve your goals.
How long are the therapy sessions?
Standard therapy sessions are 45-50 minutes in length for the initial and follow-up visits. I can schedule partial or extended sessions if we agree that they may benefit you.
What do you charge?
My fee is $125 per session, payable at each session by cash, check or credit card. I am currently offering a reduced fee to individuals or couples who are motivated to get help and make changes, but have financial concerns. Feel free to call me at (909) 260-2736 or email me and we'll try to find a mutually-agreeable rate.
Do you take insurance?
If you have a PPO (not EAP or HMO) that covers behavioral/mental health services, and you can choose me as your provider, here's how it would work: You would pay my fee up front, and then I would provide you with a "Superbill" claim you can submit to your PPO for possible reimbursement. You can also ask me about the risks and benefits of using your insurance for therapy.
